Huge Support from People for FUTA Protest

Second phase of the Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) protest march started from Ambalangoda to Aluthgama on Tuesday, 25th September.
The massive protest march was organized by the university academics jointly with students and all opposition political parties in order to save the free education system in Sri Lanka. This protest campaign started on Monday, September 24th from City of Galle and it is set to conclude in Colombo.
Dr Nirmal Devasiri, the FUTA correspondent told Lankasocialist correspondent that, “There is a more and more ordinary people marching with us and more are joining in from all sectors of the society. We are expecting a significant crowd to march for this cause by the time we reach Colombo on 28th September.”
Together with other opposition political party leaders, USP General Secretary Siritunga Jayasuriya and USP members walked from Galle to Aluthgama. USP distributed a leaflet calling for a one day general strike with a day of protest to save the free education system and to win the workers’ salary demand of immediate increase of RS. 12,500.
