Siritunga in Galle

The USP held its presidential campaign in southern Sri Lanka during the past several days. Siritunga, the USP presidential candidate addressed a series of meetings and community gatherings in the areas including Galle, Balapitiya, Dikwella, Weligama, and Dodandoowa. He met with the fishing and other communities in these areas, especially with people who were displaced during the Tsunami tragedy and still are not able to achieve their normal day to day life.

In a public meeting held at ‘Samupakara Mandiraya’ in Galle, Siritunga identified the present campaign as the worst presidential campaign held in the country. He said “…Both main presidential candidates delayed their election manifestos until one discovered what was in the other candidate’s manifesto.” Siritunga further declared “...This clearly shows us none of these two candidates have a genuine policy to solve any of the issues the country is facing today. Both candidates were indistinguishable until a couple of months ago, sharing the ‘win’ over the war. Now they have both started mud-slinging against each other on the same things they shared a little while ago.” It is very clear that both candidates try to exploit votes of the Sinhala majority using racism.

Siritunga demanded that, “Under these circumstances, Sri Lankan voters have a golden opportunity to get rid of the traditional way of thinking and to have a radical change in the country by voting for the United Socialist Party, who fight for a Socialist Sri Lanka in which all the communities can live in peace and harmony.
